Serenity
Surrounded by deep woods
on paths far from tourists
looking down on the inlet
at Siwash, Vancouver
I see on blue water
a girl on a paddle board
floating, doing yoga,
slowly and carefully
she goes through the motions
body perfectly balanced
while I hold my breath
watching in the silence
until she ends standing
with hands as in prayer
picks up her paddle
slowly moving away;
I find on my high point
of dry land, a new calm.
