Ocean
Ocean where all begins, all ends.
Ocean encompassing the earth,
the never ending birth of rivers, rain,
the birth of floods, death of droughts;
land's erosion eating away at cliffs
and shores, scouring canyons, gouging
the deep abyss, drowning mountains,
volcanic rifts, vents. Constantly reclaimed
recycling grain by grain, layer by layer.
Ocean giving up its molecules as cloud,
to billow, tower, infect our fevered minds
with wild scenarios, fantasies of gods;
earning fear, our curses or our blessings
as they shower their contents: provide
sustenance, growth, beneficence as well as
damage and destruction to us, so recently
intruded, crawled up from its salty depths.
Ocean where all begins, all ends.
