Book worm

by Di de Woolfson

What she overhears
is packed too tight
for small fingers
to prise apart,
fingers that given the chance
would travel one word
at a time along sentences
burrow down into paragraphs
to where stories hide her
under the bed,
covers scrunched against
grown ups packed too tight
for small fingers to prise apart.
